Ajmal, a 20-year-old boy, was diagnosed with Aplastic anaemia in 2013. Butterfly Cancer Care Foundation supported him with Rupees one lakh for carrying out bone marrow transplantation (BMT) at CMC Vellore. He had a speedy recovery after the BMT and he won first prize in a marathon at Calicut after 03 years of his BMT. This was a very special case where the uneducated mother had no clue about how to proceed with his treatment when doctors had varied opinions about the chances of success post-BMT. Butterfly’s moral support together with seed fund was critical to move the patient from the local hospital to CMC Vellore and complete the treatment. We are always proud and happy about our first case of BMT support which bought ayoung boy like Ajmal back to his wonderful life. He is currently pursuing BCA at Bangalore.

Ashrai Kumar, an 18-year-old boy, was diagnosed with Inflammatory Bowel Disease when he was 14. He was a very enthusiastic and energetic boy despite his serious health problems. With a recommendation from Dr. Suma Balan, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences BCCF have supported with his medications and education expenses since 2015. He was very bright in academics that he secured above all A+ or Xth andXIIth. His science project was the only project selected from Kerala to be presented at National Level at the Iris National Fair last year. Most importantly, he cleared the MBBS entrance exam in merit rank and got admission at Calicut Medical College.

Ms. Julie is a patient with cancer at advanced stages, leftout by her husband, but surviving with a 13-year-old young, bright daughter. Her case was referred by a social worker and the challenge in front of us was to take care of both the mother and the daughter in case of any eventuality. We took this responsibility, identified life-long support commitments from a couple of dedicated sponsors for the education and living expenses of the kid. With support and advice from Govt agencies and church-groups, we are also taking responsibility for Julie’s daughter for her safe and healthy upbringing, while Julie is supported by her treatment and living expenses.

Alina George, whose mother is a cancer patient and father a daily wage employee completed B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering at Model Engineering College, Thrikkakara, Kerala with BERF fellowship. She is our first BERF student who has secured a job as a software engineer. In another similar case, where we took responsibility for the security and schooling of a young girl after her mother passed away due to cancer recently. Her father, a daily wage employee who is addicted to alcohol, was not able to provide a secure living for this kid. Butterfly facilitated shifting of this kid to a convent facility run by missionaries and providing financial,moral and logistic support for her healthy and secure upbringing, with long-term commitment.

Meenakshi Sajeev who lost her father due to liver cancer and her house was completely affected by the floods. BCCF along with Rotary Cochin midtown worked together to built a two-bedroom house for the family and on behalf of the Butterfly family.In addition to this, we have identified 6 houses for renovation and 4 houses for construction during the time of Flood with the support of the Confident Builders Group.
